Aloha mai kakou!
E komo mai, welcome to all. In February the Mainland Council directors and members of our various civic clubs, had the opportunity to participate in a two-day grant writing workshop. All came away with a renewed understanding of how to do a better job when seeking out grants available for non- profit organizations like ourselves. A number of the clubs are working on specific projects and are using their newly founded grant writing skills. Imua!
The month of March brings with it many celebrations as we honor the life and work of the founder of the civic club movement, Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianao`le Pi`ikoi. Check out the website of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at www.aohcc.org for all of the events taking place in Hawai`i, culminating on his birthday, March 26. Throughout the continent, each club of the Mainland Council will remember Prince Kuhio and his legacy, whether it is in an informal, more home style setting or a gala gathering with keiki, na opio and ohana. Together we recall the work that he accomplished while representing the then territory of Hawai`i in Congress. Perhaps even more so, we take up his challenge to educate our youth, to advocate for the rights of Native Hawaiians, and to perpetuate the richness of our cultural heritage. Hauoli la hanau, Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianao`le Pi`ikoi!
Be sure to check out the events that our various clubs are involved with in their respective areas. Remember, you are welcomed!
E komo mai!
